Join your ’72 classmates in leaving a legacy for the future generation. Whether you can give a little or a lot, you can be a part of The Class of 1972 Endowed Scholarship Fund. In 1988, three classmates established this scholarship fund. Last fall, in honor of our 50th Reunion, they graciously agreed to rename it The Class of 1972 Endowed Scholarship Fund.

Since then, over 128 of your classmates have contributed $759,609 toward the ’72 Scholarship. Our Class goal is to raise the total to $1.5 million, so that the investment income can support the average cost of a scholarship for one student every year in perpetuity. We are proud that Smith is one of only 20 colleges and universities that have taken the bold step to eliminate student loans.

Another Class goal is 72% participation. 44% of your classmates have made a gift to Smith this year, already exceeding last year’s total participation. We are grateful for the 220 of you who have already made gifts.

Can’t give now? Planned Giving is for you. Smith’s Planned Giving program has many options, and there’s lots of expertise available, so there’s bound to be a way to use your estate to make a gift to Smith, either now or at your death. Our third Planned Giving webinar is planned for March 22. Like the other two, it will be recorded and available from the Class website. And yes, your planned gift counts toward our 50th reunion gift.

So, are you in? Whether you choose to give to the ’72 Scholarship, the Smith Fund, or another fund at Smith; and whether you give now or set up a gift for later, YOU can make a difference with your gift, whether it is large or small. If you are already “in” we thank you and ask that you encourage your friends to join us. Together we can make it possible for exceptional students to have the extraordinary opportunity which we had – a Smith education.
