Dear Classmates:I am writing with exciting news from Smith.
• Louise Parent, Smith Trustee and Class of ’72, chaired the Presidential Search Committee for Smith’s 11th President, and in December it was announced that Kathleen McCartney, Dean of the Graduate School of Education at Harvard University, will succeed Carol Christ July 1st. To hear Kathleen McCartney’s reflections on Smith, watch this video clip.
• Kathleen McCartney, President-Elect, wowed Students, Staff, Faculty and Trustees alike on her visit to campus on January 25th. To hear welcoming greetings, watch this video clip. She will be formally inaugurated with a ceremony on October 19. Details will be posted as they become available.
• Women for the World has been launched, a campaign to help realize Smith’s mission to be the preeminent source of women leaders for the world. This includes an increasingly global curriculum and student body, and other changes to reimagine the liberal arts for the 21st century. Your classmates Kate Mulhern Johnson, Kim Albright and I attended a thrilling weekend in October at Smith, where students demonstrated the powerful impact Smith is having on preparing women for the world. You can learn more about Women for the World here.
Be part of this exciting campaign by donating to “Women for the World.” Each gift you make over the next five years will count toward this campaign AND your 45th reunion gift. In addition, by donating this year and the next four years, you will be a “Smith Star” – individuals who give to Smith every year for five years. To make a gift, please click here.
I recently attended a fantastic Career Workshop given by Associate Director of Alumnae Engagement Colleen Del Vecchio, on “Using Social Media to Boost Your Career,” organized by my local Smith Club. Colleen offers a number of workshops including changing careers, updating your job search skills, tapping your talents, as well as using social media. Those of you who are reinventing yourselves might be interested in bringing Colleen to your local Smith Club. Check out Smith’s career services offerings.

Please don’t forget your Class Dues….this is the best time to sign up. Support the Class of 1972 by sending a check for your one-time-in-five-years class dues (see form below). Dues pay for a printed newsletter mailed every year to every classmate. Also, dues pay for the expenses of planning and putting on our five-year reunions. You will be helping your officers – Melissa Hield, Stefanie Cargill and myself – in planning for our 45th in 2017. And if you have your suggestions for our 45th or are interested in being a part of our planning team, please contact me directly.
Thank you for supporting our class, Smith’s students and its future.Best regards,
