Winter 2011 NewsletterOur 40th Reunion – May 24 – 27, 2012It’s not too early to mark your calendar and plan a trip down memory lane along the shores of Paradise Pond. Yes, much has changed at Smith but much has stayed the same …just like our lives. Our Reunion theme is designed to reflect that. While on campus, there is sure to be much “reminiscing” and “reconnecting”. We also plan to have programs designed to “redefine” as we enter the next stage in our lives. Your suggestions for programs are welcome, please send them to Kay and Ev (e-mails below).
In 2010 we called upon our House Reps to contact those housemates without listed e-mail addresses and were able to update our e-mailing list. If you have not received e-mails from us, please send yours to Melissa and she’ll forward it to the college.
Those House Reps who made phone calls reported how much fun they had getting in touch with women they hadn’t talked to in years. As we get closer to reunion, we are recruiting additional house reps who would enjoy the chance to catch up with old friends, spread the word, and generate enthusiasm for heading back to Smith. Interested? If you would like to volunteer, please contact Kay or Ev.
Also we are putting together a Reunion Team in 2011. If there is anything you especially loved or hated about past reunions, this is your chance to tell us. In addition, volunteers will be needed to help with meal selection, parade signs, programming, staffing headquarters and the class survey. All suggestions and help are greatly appreciated, please send an e-mail to Kay or Ev.
Starting in April we plan to post updates on the class website (www.smithcollege72.org) including a list of those planning to attend. We want the Class of 1972 to break attendance records for a 40th Reunion!

Smith ’72, You Make a Difference!
Our gifts to the Smith Fund help Smith educate “women of promise for lives of distinction.” For example, Smith is tied for first place (with Pomona) as the liberal arts college producing the most Fulbright Fellows. Smith ranks first in the nation in the number of students studying abroad for a full year. Smith is near the top among small colleges and universities in the production of Peace Corps volunteers.
Thanks to the 245 classmates from ’72, who made gifts to Smith totaling more than $231,000 in fiscal year 2010. A special thanks to the 178 of you who have made gifts in each of the past three fiscal years and will be the shining “Stars” at our 40th reunion.
Don’t pass up your chance to make a difference in fiscal 2011. Think of your gift to the Smith Fund as a chance to change the world. Give securely online at www.smith.edu/thefund. Give by phone at 800-241-2056 option 1, or by mail to The Smith Fund, 33 Elm Street, Northampton, MA 01063
